INSPIRED BY PAUL: FORMING A COMMUNITY OF DISCIPLES THROUGH SUNDAY PREACHING
Monday, June 22 - Thursday, June 25 The Athenaeum of Ohio/Mt. St. Mary's Seminary
Father Ron Knott Director of the Institute for Priests and Presbyterates at St. Meinrad, and Father James Wallace, CSsR, Professor of Word and Worship at Washington Theological Union, will be the keynote speakers for the Preaching Institute.
Father Knott is a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville. He has published collections of his homilies, as well as books on the ministry of priests. He is a much sought after lecturer to priests in this country and internationally.
Redemptorist Father Wallace has been teaching homiletics since 1973, at Mt. St. Alphonsus in Esopus, New York, at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining, New York and at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, New Jersey. On the faculty of the Washington Theological Union since 1987, he is well known for his several books and many articles on the ministry of the Word.
The role of the Sunday preacher cannot be underestimated, particularly in this time in history wh en the people of God are in great need ofhearing a word of hope, a word of faith, a word that forms them into a community of disciples. Come and be inspired by the Word of God, by the wisdom of others, by sharing and learning with your colleagues in ministry.
The community that gathers Sunday after Sunday comes together to offer God praise and thanksgiving, or at least to await a word that will give meaning to their lives and enable them to celebrate the Eucharist. What the preacher can do best of all at this time and in this place is to enable this community to celebrate by offering them a word in which they can recognize their own concerns and Gods concern for them. (Fulfilled in Your Hearing, no. 14)
Come and renew your ministry of preaching!
