Welcome to a new
academic year!
The Athenaeum community
welcomes new and returning students to The Athenaeum and the Shrine Center
at Maria Stein, and new students attending the satellite campus at St. Ann,
Groesbeck. We hope you had a relaxing summer and are looking forward to the
start of classes.
This year we welcome
several new teachers to the LPMP program. These include Sr. Ellen Doyle, OSU,
and Ms. Karen Kane, Director of the Worship Office who will be teaching in
the MAPM program. Mr. Kevin Schmiesing of Sidney will teach at Maria Stein
and Mr. Eric Wolf will join the faculty at St. Ann. Rev. Ken Morman, Dean
of Students at the Seminary, will teach scripture in the Certificate program
at St. Ann and graduate scripture electives at the Athenaeum. These
professors bring a wealth of academic and ministerial experience to the
classroom and we know you will enjoy learning from them.
Pastoral Administration
Program
The Athenaeum/LPMP Division
has admitted the first two students to the Advanced Graduate Certificate in
Pastoral Administration and we are looking forward to the initiation of this
new program track. Several new electives have been designed for this program
and students will also take advantage of current course offerings.
Staff Presence on Class
Nights
Due to teaching
responsibilities, meetings and required daytime presence, LPMP Directors are
not always at the Athenaeum each evening when you are in class. However, if
you need an evening appointment, please contact us. We will be glad to
accommodate you.
Photo ID Cards
Once again, the Alumni
Association is offering students the opportunity to obtain photo ID cards.
These allow Athenaeum students to access student discounts at a variety of
venues. Photos will be taken the first week of class at the Athenaeum and
representatives will travel to Maria Stein and St. Ann. Please contact the
Development Office (513-231-2223) if you have questions about the Athenaeum
Student ID cards or if you miss the photo dates.
Snow chains and Contact
Numbers
Please insure that we have
the latest contact numbers for you, including your email address. Each class
will have a snow chain that can be initiated of class is cancelled for any
reason. If weather is hazardous where you live and class is not cancelled,
please use your best judgment in making a decision to attend.
Attendance Policies
The expectation of the
Athenaeum is that students will attend all classes except in cases of
emergency. Please be on time and remember to turn your cell phones off or to
silent mode prior to the start of class. If an emergency arises, please
contact your professor to let them know you will be absent.
Meals and Liturgy
If you attend class at the
main campus, you are welcome to participate in the liturgical life of the
community and dine in the refectory any class night but Wednesday (Seminary
Community Night). You must have BOTH a meal ticket and a reservation in
order to eat at the Athenaeum. Please call Ms. Jan Hagedorn in the main
office for reservations and the purchase of meal tickets (231-2223). Please
do not dine without making appropriate arrangements.
Capstone Meeting Wed.
Sept 20th 6pm
All MAPM students who will
graduate in 2007 or who plan to start their project in 2006/7 should attend
the Capstone meeting Wednesday, September 20th at 6pm. Students
who have class on Wednesday night may leave when class begins. The Capstone
takes the components of the project step by step and allows students to
bring their work to a forum of peers for discussion and input. It fosters a
collaborative sense of ministry and peer responsibility, greater ability to
articulate ministerial issues, and more clearly defined projects. This is
the standard way for MAPM students to undertake the project in ministry. If
you have questions about your readiness to begin the project, please call
your advisor.
