Revealing the Mystery of God

Virginia M. Kimball STD

 

 

 

Dr. Virginia M. Kimball earned an MA in Theology from Andover Newton Theological School and an STL and STD from the International Marian Research Institute at the University of Dayton.  She is a frequent contributor to Queen of All Hearts magazine and to the Mary Page (www.MaryPage.org) sponsored by the Marian Library at the University of Dayton.  Although educated as a Roman Catholic Marian theologian, Dr. Kimball is an Orthodox Christian and belongs to the Transfiguration of Our Saviour Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, Massachusetts.  She is also a member of the Orthodox Theological Society of America.  Formerly a freelance journalist, Dr. Kimball is Adjunct Professor in the Religious Studies and Theology Department at Merrimack College in Massachusetts.

 

This program is designed for pastoral ministers and religious educators, as well as others who are interested in Orthodox Christianity, prayer and spiritual development.

 

 

Program Overview

Morning Session

·    introduction to the topic

·    video presentation of the history, veneration and writing of icons

·    explanation of iconographic traditions; examples of old and miraculous icons; explanation of the iconostasis; John of Damascus’ reflections on icons

·     questions and answers

 

Afternoon Session

·    meditation on a series of icons, followed by explanations of their meaning; the icons considered will include

  • the Mandyllion

  • Pantocrator

  • the Trinity

  • Annunciation

  • Nativity

·    Closing prayer with icons

 

Participants will receive an icon reflection folder.

Morning session           10:00 a.m. - noon

Lunch                          Noon – 1:00 p.m.

Afternoon session        1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
