ID 235 Eucharistic Theology
and Celebration
The purpose of this course is to assist the student in understanding the
meaning of the central action of Christian worship - the Eucharist - and in
developing the ability to lead the Christian community in that act of
worship. Beginning with a review of the theological, sacramental and
liturgical insights which guide all worship, the course will review the
history and theology of the Eucharist, the contemporary theology emerging
from Vatican II, as well as new theological questions and issues. In that
context the student will address the practical and pastoral questions of
Eucharistic celebration. One practicum component will be spent becoming
competent with the area of ministerial chants and liturgical movement. The
other practicum (for seminarians only) component will involve the actual practice of the
celebration under supervision and on videotape. Prerequisites: ID 231, S
234. (5 Credits, 3 Credit without practicum)
ID 236 The Sacraments of
Healing and Their Celebration
This course will complete the presentation of the theology and practice of
the Christian Sacraments by examining the two sacraments of Christian
healing _ Penance and Anointing of the Sick. After a review of the
historical development of the theology and practice of these sacraments,
the course will address contemporary theological questions and pastoral
practices in the areas of reconciliation and healing. Flowing from these
considerations, the practicum component will provide the student with
guidance regarding the celebration of the various forms of the celebration
of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This guidance will include practice in
the celebration of the various options under supervision and on videotape.
